Fashion Tips for the Businessman

Do you sometime wish that you had a fairy godmother who would tell you what to wear so that you will look presentable when you go to work? Or better yet, one who would daily pick out an outfit for you to wear? Since fairy godmothers are in rather short supply, here are a few fashion tips for men in the corporate world.

Let’s start first with discussing suits. You should own at least two suits. They should be a lightweight fabric and be either navy or gray. A pin stripe is suitable if it is small. If you work for a business where you are expected to show up at black tie socials, you’ll also want to have an appropriate dressy black suit.

Your shirt should be a solid color or one with a subtle print or stripe. Don’t wear faddish colors like magenta. It isn’t professional. Make sure the sleeve extends about half-an-inch beyond your jacket sleeve. If it’s longer, it will look like you are wearing your father’s shirt and shorter looks like something left over from your high school days.

Shoes are an important part of your outfit. Too often, men don’t pay attention to them. Buy the best quality lace-up dress shoes that you can afford and that feel comfortable. Shoes can either make or break the man. Keep them polished and in good repair. Match your shoe color with your suit color. Do not wear shiny patent leather shoes to work. Save those for eveningwear.

Now a word about other small details. Make sure that your belt matches the color of your shoes. Make sure your socks match the color of your pants. Make sure your tie comes down to your belt. Don’t keep your wallet in your back pocket.Fashion Tips for the Businessman
